How can we tell? It's too early. We have yet to see what the man can do. He isn't even inaugurated yet.

Don't take his kindness for weakness. That is an old saying and I think its appropriate in this case.

We're going to find out. I think he'll find that even in his own party people will challenge him as part of the game of politics.

Members of his own party in Congress are challenging him on certain issues because it is their responsibility and role. The Legislative Branch is exercising
their constitutional power when Representatives or Senators do not go along with his recovery plan 100% or expecting to be consulted before naming a nominee to
head the CIA. It's not just politics, it's the way the system should work.
In fact, I'm not sure that "challenging" is such a good word for this. That sort of implies that he has the authority to decide legislative wording on his own. They are in fact working with him and negotiating and there's nothing inherently confrontational about that unless someone makes it confrontationsl. From what I see, they are not being hostile in their areas of disagreement. The President Elect and Congress seem to be cooperating and negotiating. |

You all know i am a conservative....been that way since i worked as a welfare case worker and found that more people would like to have less money from the
government than more money without the guarentee that they would have it every month.....plus easier to scam uncle sam than a private sector boss....
Is he tough enough....it's a non question. he got a pass by the mass media leading up to the election while the likes of sarah palin (who isn't an einstien, to be sure) was raked over the coals for everything from her children to her wardrobe.....while michel obama's wardrobe was praised with no regards to its cost was mentioned. can he stand a media united against him........no body can - and he won't have to. he can do what he wants and he don't have to be tough and stand firm against a press that maligns him while he makes progress in iraq not reported in the press - only deaths......will he? don't think so. tell you what, he has already achieved a great power - he has driven gun and ammo prices through the roof. I have got so many emails from ammo and gun websites i did business with telling me to buy or sell now - he's taking our rights away - that it isn't even funny to me any more. and the prices reflect it. I am going to start re-loading my own ammo. I can't afford to sport shoot as long as he is in office. and i'm not worried about him being tough, just these vague promises of utopia he seems to be defauluting on now before he even gets in office. and just when did the united states get an office of the president elect....i'm an idiot, dude, because i never, ever, heard of it until now. so things suck. they are going to suck for awhile before it gets better. he never said that during the election. hope. well, i hope you don't take my guns away. that's my audicity of hope. are you tough enough to leave us gunowners alone? ann |

Ryoko, what Obama will need to do is what Clinton did to a degree: not allow the far left of the Democratic party to get whatever they want on their
wish list. And i'm sure stringent gun control is on the list. I also think Obama intends to be re-elected so he'll be smarter than the leftists.
So far I am withholding judgment. I have always said I didn't expect any miracles from Obama: just competence, honesty and looking forward for policy, not an administration to be anchored to ideologies of the past. The republican party for some reason chose McCain. He was too old and it occasionally showed. He chose as a running mate somebody too inexperienced to take over if he got incapacitated. In fact, the story of how palin was 'chosen' for Mccain is sort of sad. Blame Bill Kristol, the neo-con who is always wrong about everything, and his close friends for the Palin choice. Early last week on Fox, comedian Dennis Miller expressed his hope that 'My President' will be successful. Whether or not we voted for a particular president we should hope he does well in order that our nation will prosper and our citizens will be better off. And it will be interesting to see if Obama brings home most of our military. Certainly his proposed policies for veterans were better than McCain's. The big majority of votes cast by serving military abroad were for Obama, I've read. |

Ryoko says:
"tell you what, he has already achieved a great power - he has driven gun and ammo prices through the roof. I have got so many emails from ammo and gun websites i did business with telling me to buy or sell now - he's taking our rights away - that it isn't even funny to me any more. and the prices reflect it. I am going to start re-loading my own ammo. I can't afford to sport shoot as long as he is in office. " But Obama is not in office. He hasn't done a thing in regard to gun control. Ryokotheannamal, has it occurred to you that the gun and ammo dealers are exploiting the fears of some of the public? They are jacking up those gun and ammo prices based on what people fear MIGHT happen, not anything which has occurred. They know how to make profits happen and they win because people are fearing they can't buy ammo later. Re: guns. Ryoko, I support prosecuting those who use guns to commit crimes to the fullest extent of the law. Of course most gun crimes happen in inner cities and close in suburbs. Little children get shot, sometimes killed. Too many gun owners are irresponsible in how they store their weapons. A lot of guys leave their guns in their cars and the cars are frequently broken into. The weapons are then used in crimes. It appears to me that the NRA ought to do more to teach programs about responsible gun ownership and safety than lobbying and contributing to politicians.

Gun dealers are operating on the same premise that the GOP did, "create enough fear, and they will come". The idiots are falling for it of course,
Chicken Littles that they are.
