Gordon Ramsay Kitchen Nightmares: he's like a coach or he's a mook? |

I like Gordon Ramsay. He appears to be the Mike Ditka of the restaurant business. What do
you think of ballsy Gordon?

He's a great cook but a complete nobhead of a person.
Also, the tabloids over here have a very juicy story that they've been gagged on about other 'nocturnal' activities. It's well known that the 'posh jock' was arrested in his early 20's after some 'high jinks' in a public toilet with a group of men... I wonder if the story is related to that? Hmmmmm |

Aw, c'mon. I don't buy the gay. Isn't his latest scandal about a blonde mistress of 7 years?

That was a 'sacrificial lamb' story to deflect away from the papers really wanted.
My cousin used to work a sous-chef for him in Aubergine in the early 80's and she told me that he was caught receiving some relief from a recently trained chef. Yeah, he was a bloke... You watch, and remember you heard it here first! Haha |

Well ---- this blonde chick in Australia said she TOO had a affair with Gordon while he was out here a year or two ago on a promotion tour thingy! LOL
I shall remember you said it first Dubya if the gay thing turns out to be true but I sort of think he is straight. I do love his TV show. |

Oh , I forgot to ask - sorry Vince but what is a "mook" - not a word we use here.

I think Vince misused the word mook. A mook is a boneheaded young blockhead with no ambition and proud of it!
I have very good gaydar and I don't read Gordon as bi. I think many guys have experimented once or twice when opportunity presented. Most find out same sex isn't for them. Guys get horny and even straight ones when drunk might take advantage of an opportunity. Drinking and cooking go together. But think about it: who cares about Gordon's personal life, including his marriage and sex life? That's personal. I admire Gordon lots because he has done more than any person in my lifetime to improve the quality of restaurant management and foods which benefit all of us customers. Ramsay's various programs educate chefs and restaurateurs. He shows people who have unrealistic dreams of opening restaurants what's involved: HARD WORK and a devotion to quality and cleanliness and seeing that the customers get value and pleasure for their hardearned money. My grandmother and stepfather were reataurateurs, chefs, managers of restaurants of their own as well as hotel restaurants. Working in a kitchen is the hardest job outside of being a garbage truck hopper. Kitchens are hot, splashy, sometimes even dangerous. I never knew a chef male or female whose hands and arms weren't full of cuts and burn scars.

Exactly Morticia! I really like the way he tells these owners about being Clean!!! Any chef that goes to collage here should know about the importance of a
clean kitchen and cross infection. Now, that does not mean that the lazy ones do it once out in the big wide world!
Gordon slams it home big time! |

I can tell GR is very passionate and a perfectionist. I've had chefs who are complete A%### , but didn't have the standards and quality of a Chef Gordon. Kitchen Nightmares is extreme, but there are many restaurants, managers, and owners that have absolutely NO clue what they are doing. They have no management skills, or simple safety skills. So his being harsh with some of the people he is advising is necessary. |

I became more wary of eating in restaurants after seeing the nasty kitchens of some restaurants on that show! Too much filth.

Gordon = Mike Ditka? Yes, I see it. Gordon boxes and is athletic. He looks at least 6'2". He doesn't take shit from anybody. Gordon is a top
authority in his profession. If he's ever had man/man sex he's still very manly. Just like you, Vincent.
I'm watching one of those Kitchen Nightmares now. In this episode about a Long Island restaurant named Seascape he's had to be a big boss as well as a cognitive psychotherapist to some people who had inherited a restaurant. They deserve to lose the restaurant and have to sell the building to people who can run it better. Morticia, the filth in some restaurants makes me want to stay home to eat. In my home the kitchen and baths are always clean. I always wash my hands. No cross contamination for me. The show is over. Chef Gordon probably told the people they don't have what it takes to run a restaurant so they sold it.

Self-Reliance, and Perseverance.

Nicky, don't think you're far off on this:
"Just like you, Vincent. " No wonder Vince would have commented on Gordon's show. They have similar ways of coping with people who aggravate them (and both cuss like crazy, as does Ditka) and intensity although Vince is rather quiet. I don't like Ramsay's 'F-Word' show. Dubya, I think Gordon loves women, unless they're not goodlooking. |

I adore Gordon Ramsay and would have had no problem working for him back in my waitressing days. The hardest place to work is a family biz where everyone has a
different idea of how things should be done and there is no consistency. He is tough but truthful. I've never minded cursing so I don't even notice
that. It's very common among good chefs.
I can see the mike Ditka comparison. They both have that "in your face" style. I sure don't see Gordon as being gay or even bi but I've never met him personally so I could be wrong. I wouldn't be surprised to find out he had many, many affairs. Most people with that much drive and passion for anything, whether it's cooking, business, art, whatever, also have high libidos. All that energy has to go somewhere. More power to him. He's awesome. Thinking about what goes on in most restaurant kitchens will keep me from eating out for months. I'm pretty picky about the restaurants I go to. Let me just say that it's not a myth that you should never insult your server before they bring your food. On the other hand, a good chef will keep a kitchen that will rival any private home for cleanliness.

i used to watch that great chefs program years ago when they showed all these exotic
dishes with strange combinations of ingredients that gordon calls pretencious crap on his shows....you know, i thought they sounded really nasty myself. i am
so happy so see a chef who values simple food cooked well. hearty meals with local, fresh ingredients at a decent price. yes, i love him. and i pay no
attention to what he does in his personal life, because i don't care. no pilot cares if i am screwing someone else, cheating on my husband or if i have a
few nut cases in my family tree, no. they only care about the job i do and if i do it well.
on a separate note, here is a fav video of mine from gordon (i found it looking for ferret videos, we love our ferrets!) ann ps. gordon talks like we do on the flightline, no punches pulled and everything on the table. love him
